Why The Shreeve Basket?

You might be wondering why in the world we decided to call our blog The Shreeve Basket. I'm glad you asked. LOL!

There are actually two reasons. The first, some of you may know is a play off the name of the adoption agency where we found Tabetha and her birth family (Woven Basket Christian Adoption Services) and where we have begun our second adoption.  The name Woven Basket comes from the story of Moses In Exodus 2  when his birth mother put him in a basket and floated him on the Nile River to keep him safe from Pharaoh, who wished to destroy him. He was of course found and raised by the Pharaoh's daughter as a prince. Tabetha's birth parents purposely "wove" a basket and placed her in the river knowing that this was the best way to keep her safe. And we of course "found her" and raise her as the princess that God make her.

The second reason, is actually much more personal. It's actually because of my Grandma, but I bet most of you can relate. When I was a kid, we always had holidays at my Grandma's house. And she always cooked. I mean, turkey, ham, mashed potatoes from scratch, gravy, green beans, etc. Everything you would think of as a traditional holiday meal. And right before we sat down to eat, she would take those fresh baked rolls out of the oven and put them in a basket and wrap them in a towel to keep them warm. Everyone loved them and the basket was always refilled many times before the meal was over.  Now, if you think about it yes, the rolls inside the basket are what we loved but without the basket, well smashed, cold and perhaps dirty rolls just aren't as fulfilling now are they?

When we found Tabetha she came in a basket, it kept her safe but since that point we as a family are making our own basket to keep us from harm and to prepare us and our children for God's plans.  Only he knows how many rolls will end up in our basket or how big the basket will end up.

At the starting line again!

We have offically started the adoption process again! On Friday I mailed in our application and background checks. In the next few days the fingerprints cards will be mailed in as well.

Just to be clear, we are in the process of adopting a second child, not Tabetha. Tabetha loves playing with other kids so I'm sure she will make a great sister. This promises to be quite the journey as we are not only on the infant list but also open to adopting a child from Haiti. Either way, the wait promises to be long and only God knows where this adventure will take us. I will update as things progress!!
